...Originally we were going to get him a toy box, but his grandpa is making one instead. He already has pull/ride on toys. We bought him some clothes, but looking for a BIG gift idea. Thinking of buying another savings bond, but we buy him those every 6 months, so another wouldn't seem that spectacular. Anyone have any other ideas?

"Hi! Our son just turned one on Sept. 14th. We got him Big Knob puzzles, books, clothes, etc. But his 'big gift' was one of those Kangaroo climbers (Made by Step2). He just loves it! He is just a bit short to get himself up onto the platform by himself, so we put a non-slip footstool underneath. Now he can climb up by himself. He can't get enough of it!! Another idea to consider is the SwingAlong Castle (Made by Little Tikes). We thought about this one, but our son already had a swing. So we went with the other one. They can play with both of these until they are about 4. So they both would get a lot of use. Both can be used indoors or out. We have our son's indoors now since it is getting cold outside. We put an interlocking foam play-mat underneath, so he has a soft landing when he slides. I included two links so you can see what both items look like. I hope this helps. Enjoy your son. It's such a wonderful time and it goes so fast!"

"Why not give them a hamper filled with dish towels, cooking utensils, bath towels, cleaning supplies, scented candles, things they will need for the home. My best friend told me that was the best gift she had received. Money is the best gift if you want to give them something they will use and not put in the closet or a yard sale."

"Cooking him dinner or a nice meal is always a great and welcome thing to do. Don't forget dessert. However I'm really not sure of your age, or if you are even sexual active, but a terrific anytime (any reason) gift is to give him a BJ (bl*w-j*b, go down on him). It costs absolutely nothing and it's fun. Besides that, if you do it right, he'll love it... and maybe even return the favor. Enjoy. Good luck."

...I've been with my boyfriend for two years, we have a 6 month old son together. I want to get him a gift that lets him know that I really love him and I would like to do it any day. It doesn't have to be a certain occassion. In November, he bought a new Lexus LS. How do you think he would feel if I borrowed his car one day and had satelite radio(Sirius) installed. If this is not a good idea, please give some suggestions.

...My family and I are moving out of our neighborhood at the end of the month. Our neighbors have been wonderful friends during our time here, and I wanted to get them a gift to thank them for everything. Ideas can be for the whole family, or just the lady of the house. There are two sets of families, one with husband, wife and an 11 month old baby boy, and one with husband, wife, and two boys, one adolescent, one pre-adolescent. Thanks for your help!
While a framed picture of our families together would be a wonderful idea, we don't have any such pictures. And as for the thank you card, that's a given, I just thought that a nice gift would be the icing on the cake. And I know it's not very "Martha Stewart" of me, but I just don't care to make things. I don't have the time.
(question posted on 2006-08-08 20:07:48)
"Why not incorporate both into one - get a babysitter for the kids, and take both couples out for a thankyou meal - that way you can keep it as a neigbourly group thing to do, and take photos of the six of you enjoying yourselves while you are out - a framed copy of the best pic for all three households will hold more meaning than any store-bought item, and you all get a night out to remember!"

...I have 11 guys to buy gifts for, yeah big wedding party. I was looking to spend between $20-$25. One idea I had was using gift/products that already have their names or nicknames on it as part of the brand or product name. The names are Shawn, Drew, Trevor, Tori, Meiring, Dutch, Sandman, Gough, O'Hanlon, P, Bub.

...I need gift ideas for an 18 year old guy. He loves cars, music (Foo Fighters Metallica Muse...) and partying... we've been dating for almost 2 years and he's always so hard to buy for because he has everything - car magazines, concerts on dvd, car emblems ( that i got him ). For our past celebrations i've gotten him a ferrari emblem, an M3 emblem and a ferrari hat... and I don't know how to top myself again... or get a gift that's anywhere close to being as cool as those. Any suggestions?

"well if u had the money i would say buy him the car that he was always dreaming of but then again the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart so be creative with it. ummm is he into model cars that would be a good idea like a die cast model of one of his favorite cars. Think with ur heart just walk around a store and when something catches your eye then u know that u got the perfect gift for him."

"I'm not a big Gift Certificate or cold hard cash person for gifts - I think it's too impersonal "Here's some dough. Go buy your own gift"
Instead, I would do a nice engraved bottle of bubbly. This way the gift will certainly be useful. Schramsberg, one of the best bubbly producers in the US will do custom engraving of their bottles - they are really really beautiful."

...My mother in law retired from her job last week, and my husband and I have no idea what to get for her as a gift. What do you get a retiree?? Any ideas?
Thanks for your help!
(question posted on 2006-09-26 07:07:30)
"Make a gift basket of some of her favorite things.
A good book, some relaxing bath items, a little bag of money so she can enjoy her retirement and take a day to shop for something she wants.
I did this for my mom. I bought a little velvet bag with tassels and inside I put 300.00 dollars and a note telling her to take a day just for herself to do whatever she wanted.
then sign it, love the kids and make it a great retirement.

"Definitely get her a nice card and at least a little token gift. This is really a case where it is the thought that counts. Something fun that will mean something to the both of you would be a lot more appropriate than an expensive gift.
No girl is going to be upset if you tell her that you know you said you weren't going to exchange gifts but you really wanted to get her at least a little something."

(question posted on 2006-09-27 16:36:02)
"For our first year anniversary, I thought up 365 memories (which took jkind of a while) and wrote each one on a scrap of paper, rolled each one up and tied them with some raffia. Then I put all the scraps of paper in a nice box and had him open one memory every day. We've been together for almost six years now, and I do the same thing every year, so every day we get to reminisce together."

...They have 3 kids, 2 girls and 1 boy. All of them are over the age of 10.
Yeah I was thinking about the dinner thing, they are from the south so I'm not good with this gift idea stuff.
Oh I forgot to tell you all, I visited them in Texas, I live in New York. Thats why its hard to pick out a restaurant unless I ask them which they like.

"You should make him a photo album of just the two of you from when you first met up to now and write a couple of words under each picture that'll be something he can't grow out of and can't eat up and this time take him out to dinner or throw him a party at the house or a small place that should be enough with 100.00 becasue the photo album you can get at a dollar store. Good Luck."

...and when you opened it you had absolutely no idea what it was? That happened to me once and I did some pretty creative lying to get around it. The gift was from my mother -in-law...go figure right. Anyhow....my birthday is quickly approaching and I am gearing up my thankful face for whatever "surprises" come my way. As always..funniest or most interesting gets the 10!
Apparently my mother in law thought that I liked to do crafts..I have no idea how she thought that or how she figured with 2 toddlers that i would even have the time if I wanted to. Anyhow..it was some sort of a tool for cutting and burning and heck I don't know what else it did. I was baffled. I held onto it for a couple years in a drawer somewhere and then sold it at a yard sale for a buck. She is probably still waiting for that great craft she thought I would make for her with it :-)

"I received a gift once from my Grandmother when I was in my early 20’s. She made, a bathroom TP Barbie Dress Doll, for lack of much better wording. You take a Barbie Doll, knit a large dress out of yarn that will cover a roll of TP. You then can place the doll into the center of the roll and the dress covers the TP.
I cam across a link that has a partial photo of what I am describing."
